Maku Airport

Maku Airport

Client: Maku Free Zone Organization

Location: West Azarbaijan Province, Iran

Commencement: September 2016

Completion: November 2017

Project Description: Due to insecurity in the southern borders of the country during Iran/Iraq war, the border city of Bazargan became very active during that period. Nevertheless the role of this border terminal regardless of its potentials faded away after the war. Considering the fact that this border city is very close to two important ports of Trabzon and Mersin in Turkey, Rah Shahr International Group conducted a series of studies and a free industrial/ commercial zone was proposed in this region with the goal of promoting trade and providing logistic services. This plan was reviewed by Management and Planning Organization and consequently 450,000h plot of land was approved by the parliament for this purpose.

Site selection and studies for Maku Airport were started and made before the formation of this free zone. Approval of Maku Free Zone gave a momentum to construction of this airport and a section of the budget of this zone was allocated for construction of this airport.

Services: SAM Rash Shahr Company carried out the environmental impact assessment studies of Maku Airport and obtained the required environmental permits for commercial activities of this airport.
