Sidewalk Improvement of Shariati Street

Sidewalk Improvement of Shariati Street

Client: Tehran Municipality

Location: Tehran, Iran

Commencement: August 2007

Completion: November 2007

Project description: One of the important and long avenues in Tehran is Dr. Ali Sahriati Avenue (Old Shemiran Street) which is from south to north. Before the revolution this avenue was called Cyrus the Great Avenue. After the revolution, in honour of Dr. Shariati, an Iranian writer and scholar who had lectured several times in Hosseinieh Ershad (a mosque in the same street), the name of this avenue was changed to Dr. Shariati.  This avenue is the oldest route between district of Shemiran and Ghasran. During Qajar dynasty, this avenue was connecting the House of Caliphate to the Shemiran district in the north of Tehran. A plan for improvement of the side walk of this avenue was defined in 2006 and Rah Shahr International Group was commissioned for the design and supervision of this project.

Services: SAM Rah Shahr was involved in two stages of design and execution of this project. In the design phase, SAM was in charge of studying surface water collection system, safety assessment, vegetation and sidewalk pollution, as well as documenting the condition of the existing sidewalks and the building views from the avenue. In the execution phase, SAM supervised proper implementation of the EHS regulations both for the workshops and the operators since this avenue was in operation while this project was being completed.
