Maku Free Zone-Phase 1

Maku Free Zone_ Phase 1

Client: Maku Free Zone Organization

Location: West Azarbaijan Province, Iran

Commencement: June 2014

Completion: March 2016

Project description: During Iran/Iraq war and insecurity in the southern borders of the country, the border city of Bazargan was very active. However after the war the role of this border terminal ended and its potentials faded away. It was then when Rah Shahr International Group completed the studies on this region. Considering the fact that this region is very close to Trabzon and Mersin Port in Turkey, a commercial/industrial free zone was proposed with the goal of promoting trade and providing logistic services. This plan was reviewed by Management & Planning Organization and consequently a region with an area of 450,000 hectares was ratified by the parliament as Maku free zone. The development of 36,000 hectares of this area was defined for the first phase.

Services: Ever since the conception of this project SAM Rah Shahr has closely collaborated with Rah Shahr International Group and completed studies such as Environmental Baseline Studies (EBS) and site selection. Later Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of the first phase of Maku Free Zone was prepared by SAM and approved by Environmental Bureau of West Azerbaijan Province.
